Additional Information

Get ready to Jump Around at the Badgers stomping grounds!

Madtown Throwdown will be held as a promotional event, meaning we are looking to increase our membership which comes at no cost to you except for some fun on the water! New to sailing or less experienced sailors near the Madison area and elsewhere are welcome to attend the event to crew with an experienced CRAW skipper. Saturday the crew will meet with their assigned skipper to do a brief chat before hitting the water & Sunday’s races will be held in conjunction with the Mendota Yacht Club as part of their regular weekly Sunday series. Sunday’s race start order will be as follows: E Scows, Catamarans, MC Schows, Keelboats. It should be a great time!

Racing will take place on Lake Mendota out of Burrows Park. Cars can pull onto the grassy area to un-hook trailers, but should then be parked in the lot. We need to share the park space, so please be respectful of others’ access. There is a track system on the right side of the park facing the lake that is used to shuttle scows from the lake into dry dock. It would be best for us to keep our equipment closer to this side of the park to be as unobtrusive as possible. Daytime arrival to the park is preferred, to be considerate of neighbors, but night time arrival is acceptable. Again, please be courteous. (We’ve been operating out of this park for years without permit requirements, and we’d very much like to avoid any trouble that could change that. Thanks, in advance, for your cooperation.) We will not come off the water for lunch, so plan accordingly; food/fluid bags can be left on committee boat for retrieval on the water.

Dinner Saturday night will be hosted by Brian Hearn and catered. Motorhome parking (w/ electrical) and indoor camping is available at Daniel’s office, which translates to sleeping indoors on hard floors (so bring mats) with kitchen and showers available.

The regatta fee includes 2 dinners (double-handed registration) or one dinner (single-handed registration). Extra meals are $15. BYO beer, wine and mixers.

Not sure if you can watch sailing for a full weekend? No worries! There is PLENTY to do in Madison for the young and young at heart: check out the state capitol, enjoy the colored chairs and social scene at the Memorial Union Terrace, walk down State Street, visit the Olbrich Botanical Gardens, pop over to the Children’s Museum, see the Chazen Museum of Art or the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, book a tour at Camp Randall, stop by the farmer’s market on Saturday mornings, take a walk down to Picnic Point – the list is endless!

We would be thrilled for you to join us in Madison for the weekend – Go Bucky!
