Rock & Roll Recap 2015

Rock Lake welcomed us winter weary sailors with blue skies and sunshine. By 7:00 pm Friday, 9 boats were poised to sail with masts raised overlooking the waiting water. A 10th boat from Illinois arrived later – last to raise the mast, but first around the buoys. A few mechanical break downs Saturday on two of the single handed boats kept them out of a race or two, but with six races back-to-back-to-back, sailors had plenty of opportunity to get in the familiar rhythm of cat racing. Winds were variable with occasional holes and shifts. The two top boats, Kurt/Mark and Guy/JJ, took first or second in all but two races and tied with a low score of 8 after throw-outs. Kurt/Marks’s three 1st place finishes beat out Guy/JJ (who never finished lower than 2nd ) on the tie breaker. Daniel/Morgan, the third place finishers, took the only other first and second spots not claimed by the top two boats. The support crew including race committee, chase boat and on-shore assistance were in top form, making the long racing day tiring but most enjoyable. We capped off the day with a buffet at JJ and Judy’s house that was hosted with hospitality and generosity. Sunday morning was rainy and calm, so after getting a full weekend of racing in on Saturday, we headed home a little early. It was a great start to the season and only a few weeks until the gang will be back together again.
