Recap – Green Lake 2023
CRAW’s last regatta of 2023 took place in beautiful Green Lake, WI. Thanks to Dustin, Tassi, and Philip for organizing and running the event. Saturday was an ideal day for boat repair and maintenance with comfortable temperatures, plenty of sunshine, but too many windless patches on the lake to sail. After a season of bumps and bruises, sailors gave some TLC to their boats while Guy kept busy removing blemishes and age spots from the fleet. Burgers, hot dogs, and potluck were enjoyed at the campground around the fire ring.
Sunday’s weather presented even lighter winds, but without the holes. Light wind racing can sharpen skills and reward efficient boat handling. Race #1 was a single lap completed by most sailors within about 20 minutes. Race #2 was a single lap with 4 of 5 boats finishing within a few boat-lengths of each other after nearly 1 hour on the racecourse.
Kurt and Tyler finished top of the podium, followed by Chris and Clay, and then Randy and Shaun. As always, time together at a lake was a great way to spend the weekend. Good luck to those heading to F18 North American Finals in Canada.
