Commodore’s Newsletter – Jan 2022

Volume 1-January 2022

Dear CRAW members,

I trust you all had a wonderful holiday and are looking forward to a prosperous 2022.

I am honored and humbled to serve as commodore for CRAW for the 2022 season. I appreciate your
support in entrusting me with this responsibility, and I am committed to working hard in this role to ensure
the ongoing growth and success of our organization. As a way of maintaining a regular dialogue with
membership, I would like to start sharing with you all a periodic commodore’s newsletter, and in this initial
edition, briefly outline my goals and aspirations for the upcoming season

  • Liaison closely with all event organizers and offer any assistance as needed in the running of
  • her/his event
  • Build membership by reaching out to catamaran sailors both locally in Madison (where I live) and
  • regionally, both in-state and out-of-state
  • Continue to build upon/expand our collaboration with Robbie Daniels and Red Gear Racing
  • Continue to explore new venue possibilities

I am very optimistic about the future growth of catamaran sailing in our state. Locally here in Madison,
the Mendota Yacht Club now has a catamaran fleet (thank you Brett Hulsey!), which will hopefully provide
a pipeline for new participants in CRAW. Several fellow members of the UW Hoofers Sailing Club have
expressed a keen interest in catamaran sailing, and it is a goal of mine next season to get these folks out
on my F16 with the hope they can eventually serve as crew or even helm their own boat in CRAW races.

Lastly, some acknowledgements:

  • Deanna Selsmeyer is stepping away from her role as secretary. Thank you, Deanna, for your many years of service in this vital position. Glad to still have your expertise on board as our webmaster!
  • Ed Winders is stepping down from his position as scoring chair. Thank you Ed, for your many years of service and expertise in this important role.
  • Dale Eigenberger is stepping away from his role as event organizer for the Crazy Cats regatta. Thank you, Dale, for your many seasons spent organizing and running this regatta
  • Finally, a warm welcome to the Officer’s Club to first time officers Leah Barr, Joe Berger, Brett Hulsey, and Eli Reese.

Looking forward to a great season in 2022!

Best,
Philip
