Recap – Shell Lake 2020
It wouldn’t be a true WI vs MN Broken Rudder Challenge without questionable weather and some carnage. Although we still had a downpour in the middle of racing on Saturday, we missed the forecasted storms and had a great day of racing with good winds in the mid-teens. The F18s seemed to lead the fleet with close racing for most of the day with the rest of the fleet in tow close behind. Luckily, carnage was limited to only one boat…..sorry Dustin! A hole got punched in his starboard hull just behind the rear beam during the start of the second race. After some quick duct tape repairs, they were back on the water until the last race of the day when one of their rudders broke off on the last downwind leg.
Some wind and rain storms rolled in early Sunday morning which unfortunately cancelled the planned pancake breakfast on the beach. Once the storms passed, the wind went with it which caused the racing to be cancelled for the day and the regatta to come to a close.
Congratulations to Kurt and India on winning the regatta! Hopefully with a victory in her first regatta with CRAW she will be back for more fast paced racing.
Many thanks to Brent for setting up the regatta, Dale and Chris for running the races shorthanded with only one boat, and everyone involved for making it a fun event and putting up with our late night shenanigans.
