Recap – Windjammers 2025
Windjammers delivers AGAIN for the 49th time.
Hobie wave fleet joins the club.
Saturday started out with a maybe, then another maybe and finally we went out and the Hobie fleet started their race and so did the lightening, and racing was called off.
There was plenty of food and chatter as the storms played with our emotions throughout the day, looking like they would pass north, then maybe south , then look like the end with an opening when we went out, then grew into a storm that covered the whole area. In the end no races were finished Saturday.
The forecast for Sunday looked good and a NE wind on the lower bay of Green Bay can often surpass the forecast because the bay runs close to NE, and it did.
The wind was already turned on in the morning and racing was started early, then earlier yet. The wind built steadily through out the day even after racing was over.
With a peninsula north of the course area the left side had smaller waves as it is more protected, and the right side had 3-5 foot seas.
The conditions shook the cobwebs off as they built. It was my second time sailing my Tornado this season, and we did OK. As can be expected without time on the water,,,, WE,,,, were our own worst enemy, and we used up a lot of luck also.
Those who had-er dialed in were moving quite well. Definitely some notable competition and the first place for the regatta in the spinnaker fleet was by one point.
More than one boat had some issues and some had to call the day off.
Roughly half of each fleet chose to retire or had equipment failure. More than a few decide to wash their sails, and some being perfectionist, did it a second time as they saw a spot they missed the first time.
By the end of racing the winds were 15 with gust near 20 MPH.
Since I live nearby this venue and sail and windsurf in the same are,,, I would highly recommend attending this event as it almost always seems to deliver a memorable event.
I don’t know why, because this time of year can be a bit light on wind, but it always seems to build during the CRAW Windjammer’s regatta in Green Bay, WI.
