Recap – Rock and Roll 2024
First race back on the water and it was great fun! We had 10 boats participating, great first event turn-out. We had six races on Saturday in 12–15 knots of gusty winds. Several crews went for a swim (including us) and Eli/Brett had a rig failure dropping their mast in the last race. Sunday’s forecast was for wind in the morning shutting down at noon, and it did, with only one race getting completed. Tremendous job done by Phillip and Dave organizing the event. RC also included Peter Wood, JJ Johnson, Debbie Selsmeyer and Tassi deFelice.
Other highlights
- We welcomed new F18 boat owner Damon who crewed for Clay. Hope to see him at future events.
- Three boats sailed with female crews and two F16s single handed.
- Pizza dinner Saturday night with potluck additions was fantastic, Carol made sure we had enough pies for lunch on Sunday too, which was perfect.
- USF18 Association is offering grant money to support our class in three ways.
- If you have never done Red Gear Racing clinic, USF18 will help you pay for the one upcoming at Two Rivers in July. Let one of the officers know if you are interested, great opportunity.
- USF18 is providing $300 towards our promotional event at Madtown to get new sailors on the race course.
- USF18 is providing $200 transportation grant for any team that has to travel more than 300 miles to the US Nationals in San Fran late Sept. This is first come first serve and must have paid registration.
