Lake Petenwell - Barnum Bay Regatta,  Recaps

Recap – Petenwell 2023

Another great Petenwell regatta is in the books.  There was a good turn out with 11 boats registered.  Folks setting up boats Friday evening were interrupted by pouring rain that lasted well into the night.  Unfortunately due to some unforeseen issues with the rib we could not use the CRAW boat to help set the course this weekend.  We will be getting those issues resolved and get the boat back in working order asap.  Luckily there were some very nice people who volunteered to take the marks out on their pontoon boats for us.  Saturday was relatively light winds with shifty conditions in the morning with some strong puffs and building winds into the afternoon which made for tight racing and a total of four races on the day.  Due to a questionable Sunday forecast and some boat problems, only four boats participated in the two races held on Sunday.  Luckily, the storms held off and we had two fun races in light shifty air.  It was a good first shakedown regatta for the us to figure out the new Nacra Evolution and fix some rigging and tuning issues.  Once we get those sorted out…look out Kurt and Tyler!

Congratulations to our winners Kurt Korte and Tyler Gruen who won every race this weekend.  Eli Reese and Brett Hulsey sailed consistently and finished second in the regatta.  Third place was Randy Johnson and Jack Rickman on their new Scorpion.
