Recap – Windjammers 2022
CRAW Windjammers 2022 Regatta Recap
We had wind! After two events without that very important ingredient we got two days of racing in at Windjammers Sailing Club north of Green Bay. This might be the best venue we race at with Windjammer Club providing all the right amenities. (OK, there was a little slug at the beach, but everything else was perfect).
Dale was our PRO with Bob from Windjammers cracking the whip on Race Committee, starting the racing on time both days. Which was a very good thing as the winds died out both days and we would not have gotten in the races otherwise. Debbie and Penni did a fine job on the CRAW inflatable, setting the starting line, communicating course changes and looking after us.
With a talented fleet of ten boats; seven F-18s, A Cat, Tornado and N570, racing was very close. Saturday the pressure was nice early out of the south. Martin on his Tornado was the only boat to be on the line at the gun for the first race, with many stragglers trying to catch up. The second race had the full fleet with good conditions, but the winds died out by 12:30 and RC called races for the day.
Saturday night was Taco Feast with CRAW providing the main course and everyone bringing a dish. Randy Johnson was back and cooked up some bootleggers out of the back of his truck that got the party started. We celebrated Eli’s birthday with gift donations for a new Malcheski carbon tiller. Gotta be fast with one of those.
Sunday was cloudy with shifty and lumpy north winds. Double trapped often in first race with winds decreasing through the day. Competition was tight, shifts very hard to predict and many went hero to zero on each leg. Dale properly shortened the course for each race and got three good races in. Daniel and Phillip got the Conehead award, screaming down to the wrong mark after Daniel was not at the skippers meeting for “cone mark instructions”.
Kurt and Tyler won in a tiebreaker over Guy and Clay, with Martin and Thomas in third.
Many thanks to Debbie, Guy and Clay Selsmeyer again for being such great hosts. Only two CRAW events left for the season, next up will be Madtown Throwdown in Madison for Labor Day weekend.
Finally, good luck to all our CRAW sailors competing in the US Multihull Championships in Newport this weekend:
Elizbeth Frost
Daniel and Brian Hearn
David and Elias Reese
