Madison - Madtown Throwdown Regatta,  Recaps

Recap – Madison 2021

I have been very fortunate to join CRAW for the last three regattas. Meeting all of you has been the best part! I arrived Friday morning to sail with Daniel Hearn, who taught me so much about boat handling and body positioning, all of which I can’t wait to keep practicing. It was fairly windy and we were able to practice for a while until the port rudder broke again.

On both days the wind picked up a lot throughout the day, but overall it was very puffy and shifty. On Saturday, we got a total of five races in, and even had time to go for a sail afterward. In-between the races we self sufficiently moved the course to account for the righty that was moving through.

Saturday evening, we had an amazing time socializing with everyone. The food was delicious, especially the grilled meats by Brett.

On Sunday, actual wind was less than what was forecasted in the morning. While we were rigging, we saw the scows go out and race, which was a nice sight. We got three races in, and by the third race the wind had started to fill in. Afterwards I went out again with Arden and the wind had grown to finally match the forecast. I was very fortunate to go back out again and learn to sail in the heaviest wind I have experienced yet.

Congratulations to Daniel and Frankie for taking first place after a tie at only six points after the first day, ending with 10 points. Brian and Arden got second at 14 points, while Robert and Debby got third at 25 points.

We had a really great time in Madison, and I can’t wait to see you all again!
