Racine Recap 2015
Friday:
Winds: ~12-15 mph
Six boats were out on Lake Michigan to take part in the races on Friday. It was a bit chilly but there was a great breeze for racing. Eventually that breeze would lead to the Selsmeyer/Blake team capsizing at the gate while attempting a daring maneuver to pass Guy/JJ. Unfortunately, Chris Blake never told his crew what was happening and the boat capsized. Throughout the racing on Friday, Guy/JJ seemed to dominate. They were even nice enough to come back, pick Chris out of the water and give him a ride back to the capsized boat. Because of the capsize, Selsmeyer/Blake and Guy/JJ dropped out of the last race of the day and only the Chu Crew made a point of finishing that race. Martin showed up to race his Tornado and was doing well, but unfortunately had to drop out due to a trampoline malfunction.
Saturday:
Winds: ~5-10 mph
Saturday’s conditions were very difficult and made for very tight racing. And by tight racing, I mean some close calls and one collision. Guy/JJ t-boned Korte at a gate rounding which put a large crack down Korte’s starboard hull right behind the rear beam. At one point during the day the wind seemed to die almost completely, causing some of us to feel a little seasick in the Lake Michigan waves. The wind picked up just in time for the last race of the day.
Although they never actually raced on the course, Dave and the kids brought the Grey Ghost out of retirement. It was nice to see them back out sailing with CRAW again!
Sunday
Winds: ~3 mph
Sunday morning everyone woke up to find there was almost no wind. Around 10:30 am the race committee officially abandoned all races. Results were held at noon.
