Petenwell Recap 2015
Saturday morning started out a bit dreary, with a bit of drizzle and cloudy skies. However, once we hit the water, even though it started out with pretty light winds, it gradually built into a pretty nice, moderate air sailing day. Got a few shifts and saw some considerable differences in pressure out there. Dale on the committee boat kept us all in check, being sure we knew we’d need to be out there on time as the race would wait for nobody. He did a great job of getting us a full day of sailing by getting off 6 races in the single day.
Guy showed his experience by having a totally dominant day, getting mostly firsts and having to throw out a 2. Wes and Jenna had amazing boat speed and also seemed to find the right pressure throughout most of the day. Kurt was showing all of us F18 sailors that it is possible to sail the F18 competitively without a crew, quite a feat for a boat which wasn’t really rigged for solo sailing.
Saturday evening at Petenwell showed it’s usual fine form, with a blazing campfire and sailing stories going well into the evening. The Karaoke bar was doing it’s best to overpower us, with some vocalists who we will not be hearing anytime soon on American Idol, but we were mostly able to drown them out with a bit of reasonably well chosen music.
Sunday we awoke to a glassy lake, so given the pretty full day of racing which we had on Saturday, most of us were pretty quick to get our boats down and got an early start on our trips home.
From Randy – Personally, it was great getting back to see and race the gang again. Looking forward to being down for a number of additional races this year, as well as continuing our efforts to build up the MN based fleet as well. Hoping all of you Wisconsin guys and gals will get up and make Shell Lake a challenge for us again.
