Green Lake Recap 2014
A beautiful day greeted the CRAW fleet for day one of this year’s regatta at Green Lake Wisconsin. Unfortunately, we were also greeted with light winds. Southerly winds remained consistent but light throughout the early half of day. With storms forecasted for the afternoon, the race committee did a great job of getting two good races in. Of course, the breeze filled in for the way to shore and the storms held off for another couple hours, leaving plenty of time to socialize.
Dustin and “J Ram” did some good sailing, finishing well. Kurt and Daniel also skippered well, filling out the remainder of the top sailing spots.
The evening’s activities included an Italian Buffet at the Goose Blind along with plenty of bar game activity. The foosball tournament “should have been won” by Tassi, but Cole took advantage of some sort of home field advantage to beat up on the geriatric crowd. Pool was completely dominated by Ed and Jane. Jane, of course, carried Ed through the evening. The evening was slightly less eventful than in past years in that no boat/vehicle collisions occurred.
Sunday brought a breezy, shifty day out with winds out of the north. Shifts of over 35 degrees were the order of the day. Dale, along with Nick completely dominated day two with good boat speed while displaying great strategy taking advantage of the shifting conditions. Although Kurt had some good races, breakdowns and entanglements kept him from doing better. Regardless, Dale sailed well enough to win by a good margin.
Overall, a good time was had by all, with little to no boat or people damage.
