Madison Recap 2009

“MADTOWN THROWDOWN”
CRAW Race #3
July 27-28, 2009

From the desk of your Commodore: (who would have thought?)

The forecast was for light winds 5-10 Saturday. Fortunately for this crazy group of cat sailors it filled in nicely, with winds peaking at 19.5. The fearless CRAW racer’s had a perfect day for flying a hull up & down wind. For some of us it was too much, for others it was the ride we have been looking for all summer & of coarse, there was carnage! Everything from small holes, to broken rudders, to an E-scow that thought it was a submarine?? Once again Clay tried to kill his sister performing a pirouette with a N20 & she was done for the day, but of course “recovered” in time to party.

As you might have guessed from this report I received the 4th place honor on my N20 with a max GPS speed of 21.6! My crazy Texan crew did a great job! Kept me on the boat when I decided push off w/o a trap wire, helped right a Blade 16, fended off several attacking N20 attackers at the finish of race 2, but race 5 brought his undoing. I had to come back & retrieve him after capsizing. Welcome to the group Todd; you really are a member of CRAW once you have survived a regatta with me as your skipper. Not many have that honor & you have done it twice now.

Sunday morning brought steady winds in the 20’s with a max reading of 39.7! Lake Mendota was frothing at the mouth looking for boats to eat….. It was decided early by our PRO that racing was cancelled for the day. Good thing we had all of those Open BIC’s on the beach to play with. Thanks go to Steve Eliassen, the area BIC rep, for the opportunity to get all the kids (big & small) out on the water sailing. http://www.openbic.com/

The infusions ruled the regatta with our PRO Daniel & Morgan taking top honors followed by Randy & Brad in 2nd & the team of Tooth Digger & Cory on their N20 in 3rd. Thanks to all who came to our state capital as a racer, spectator or volunteer. Hope you all enjoyed the beautiful weather & great food. Special thanks go out to Daniel & our race committee for making the regatta a success. See you all in Green Bay! Or better yet, on the 4th for the Stone Bank parade, where the CRAW band is entered for the third straight year!
